Sonos One Smart Speaker Review

Get rich, room-filling sound from the Sonos One smart speaker, which you can control by voice using Alexa, ask questions, and use it to control other smart gear in the home.

Available in a black or white smooth matte finish with a durable metal grille to match your room’s decor, you’ll get hands-free control of music anywhere in your home—Alexa is built right into the speaker! It’s moisture-resistant too, so you can use it outside, or even in the bathroom. All you need is Wi-Fi and a power source.

An illuminated LED indicator light lets you know when the mic is active or off, and the hardwired LED connection ensures a secure connection, and that no one is listening in.

Set up a single Sonos One speaker, or connect one wirelessly to Sonos speakers in other rooms to enjoy whole-home music. Pair two Sonos Ones together in the same room for instant stereo sound. (Cannot be stereo paired with other Sonos speakers.)

With Alexa voice control, you can ask the Sonos One to play your favourite songs or playlists as you entertain guests; to turn up the volume while you’re in the shower; or play a soft lullaby as you rock your baby to sleep.

Start, stop, pause, skip, and select songs and music using only your voice, thanks to built-in Alexa support.

Sonos One allows you to start music with your voice from Spotify, Amazon Music, iHeartRadio and TuneIn. Use your voice and the Sonos app to control and manage all your music in one place: dozens of music services including Apple Music, podcasts, Internet radio stations and much more.

There’s much more you can do with voice beyond music. Ask for news, weather, or traffic updates; set a timer for the roast in the oven; and manage other smart devices in the home, like lighting or security cameras. There are thousands of helpful Alexa skills you can access through this single smart speaker. For example, check your flight status from Air Canada, or get the latest sport updates from TSN.

Because the Sonos One is continuously being updated with new features, services, and new Alexa skills are being launched all the time, the options for music and voice will only get better, and more abundant, over time.

While Alexa voice control is at the heart of the Sonos One, there are other ways you can control the smart speaker, too.

In addition to seamlessly syncing with voice, the Sonos One can also be controlled via the Sonos app, and through touch commands. Thus, you can manage your music playback with words, taps, and/or swipes – choose the method that works best for you.
