A “Good” Sounding Cheap Soundbar for $100?! Can’t be!

VIZIO SB2820n-E0 28-Inch Soundbar

Hey Dudes! In today’s review, we will look at an extremely cheap soundbar that actually isn’t terrible sounding.

First, something about the specs. The sound bar is rated for 95 dB and has a frequency response of 70 Hz – 19 KHz, and offers Dolby Digital playback and DTS sound enhancement through a digital optical connection. However, this cheap soundbar does not get very loud; and, at about 75% the sound gets pretty distorted. Consequently, the bass is not bad for a unit with no external subwoofer and it provides a simple, inexpensive 2-channel alternative to integrated TV speakers. Finally, the thing I like most about this unit is that you can add your own subwoofer with the sub out. For a cheap soundbar it actually does surprisingly well.

Are there better and cheaper alternatives?

The short answer to this question is: maybe. The AmazonBasics soundbar, regularly goes for less than $90 dollars on Amazon.ca. This soundbar is once again pretty good for the price, but it misses a few key feature that the Vizio soundbar has. Mainly, the sub out option and Dolby DTS. Additionally, there are several Chinese manufacturers that sell cheap soundbars for 100 dollars or less. but most of these are not worth your time. The final option is to get lucky, go in to your local electronics shop and find the great clearance/open box deals. These deals tend to go below the cost that these companies buy the products for and save you a ton of money. Do not be shy to buy an open box piece as most are just returned units that work great and still come with manufacturer warranty.

For a simple breakdown of this cheap soundbar then take a look at our pros/cons list below.

Pros:

  • Costs under $100
  • Bluetooth
  • Sub out line

Cons:

  • Not great for bass
  • Bulky looking
  • Not very loud

Final Thoughts:

An Amazon top seller, the VIZIO SB2820n-E0 offers amazing value for your money. This 2.0 sound bar will drastically improve the sound of your flatscreen and deliver certain audio goodies, such as DTS TruSurround and DTS TruVolume. Additionally, the device’s 95 dB output, while nowhere near the volume of more expensive offerings, will be more than sufficient for a small living room or bedroom.
